"what is this feeling, so sudden and new"
I like that when an article on director for the upcoming movie of Wicked talks about the "strong female characters" that need to be well-handled, they actually use it in the most honest way. No gun-wielding women in bustierres that block the oxygen from getting to their personalities (no matter how hot)—these are feminine, ambitious, strong-willed, quirky women, who sing thinly veiled femslash love declarations to each other, and dammit I need to see them on screen yesterday.

It is, yes! Although I wonder who did the musical adaptation, because it's decidedly more feminized (in a good way)

Do they have any solid info yet? The last I heard Winnie was working on a script, but there were no other names attached or dates for production to start.

I love pretend casting this movie in my head.

According to io9, directors are arguing over who gets the rights to it, so I assume it's well underway. Hee, I have such a hard time casting it because Kristen was such a *perfect* Galinda. (Also because of this and this)

BWA! That's hysterical.

I sort of feel like Lea Michelle is actually a pretty likely candidate for Elphaba. She's a super popular fan choice, and Glee's huge right now and she just got an Emmy nod. Assuming they don't require "big names" (since musicals are always a gamble, even popular ones). I'm OK with that because I think she's super talented, but I wouldn't hate other casting either.

But yeah, Galinda is hard. I kind of lean towards Kristen Bell, because I think she'd get the acting right and I know she can sing. But I don't know that her vocal range is high enough. Also not sure if she's got the clout right now to snag it. Most of her recent movies haven't been well received, even though she does have some great credits in her history.

Lea Michelle would be a good choice, yeah. Kristen Bell, though...she kind of drives me up the wall, so I don't think I could handle that, but maybe with a character like Galinda she could change my mind.
